The following information is provided by Cypress
Woods Community:
Cypress Woods Golf and Country Club first opened
in 1999. In 2001 renowned Florida architect Gordon
G. Lewis returned to fine-tune his creation and
make it more playable than it had been in the past.
During the renovation fairways were widened, while
brush and palmettos were cleared out in a number
of areas to make more recovery shots possible out
of the rough. The cypress heads, pine forests, rolling
fairways , elevated greens and tees remain to create
a natural flow that will carry you away from the
tensions of modern life into the world of golf.
You’ll be playing your way through wetland areas
that are protected nature preserves.
We now have a par-72 course with five sets of tees
that plays just over 6,100 yards from the back tees.
You can hit your driver on many holes, other holes
call for long irons and fairway woods in order to
set yourself up for the best approach to the green.
There is an emphasis on course management. Think
before you make your shot: Take a couple of clubs
to the tee, evaluate your options and play the shot
that best sets up your approach to the green. Our
course is a thinking man’s course above all else.
When you tee it up on No. 1, you’ll find a medium-length
par-4 that is 397 yards from the back tees and 253
from the forward. There’s not a lot of trouble here
on this hole as long as you keep it straight. It’s
a relaxing beginning to prepare you for what lies
ahead.
The 4th hole is one of the most beautiful holes
on the course, but don't be fooled by thew view
as this hole will test your ability. From the back
tees, you have to carry over a wetland natural area
to get to the fairway. The upland area to the right
turns across the fairway and you must carry this
cross hazard to reach the green.
The ninth hole is a great way to finish the front
side back at the clubhouse. An addition of a new
teeing ground has lengthend the hole to 480 yards,
this hole is a medium length, straight par-5. Now
Gordon Lewis has turned it into a par-5 with a preserve
area to the left of the naturally undulating fairway.
This is a medium-length hole, 480 yards from the
back tees and 348 from the front.
Another scenic and challenging hole is No. 16,
a par-3 that is 195 from the back tees and 110 from
the front. From any tee this hole is definitely
a challenge with a waste bunker to the right that
winds among the tee boxes and the largest lake on
the course framing the left side of the hole.
No. 18 is a par 5 that plays 549 yards from the
tips and 379 yards from the forward tees. There
is a lake and bulkhead to protect part of the approach
to the green. If a two shot eagle or birdie is in
order then some of that water must be crossed. You
risk a chance at losing your ball in the cross hazard,
but you can always bail out to the right. Distances
at Cypress Woods: 6,052 yards from the gold or back
tees; 5,612 from the black tees; 5,333 from the
blue tees; 4,733 yards from the white tees; 4,062
yards from the red tees.
